What are Universally Unique IDentifiers?

Vodis Uses UUIDs - "Universally Unique Identifiers" - as the unique record keys

for various types of data.

This is done to ensure that if database is ever modified or moved to another system,

the identities and links between the various records are not lost.

UUIDs are?

They are made up of a string of 122 binary digits, formatted into readable text.

The number of possible values of a UUID is astronomical. To put it in context, if

one billion were generated each second (enough combinations to win a six-number

lottery jackpot around seventy times each second), it would take around one hundred

years to produce enough UUIDs to have a 50% chance of getting a single duplication.

They are a good guaranteed against accidental repeats of record ID numbers.
